We have the capability to ship worldwide.
The duration of the repatriation process can vary significantly depending on factors such as required documentation and/or religious practices. There have been instances where we have been able to expedite repatriation within 24 hours. Typically, the time frame takes 7-10 business days once we have certified copies in hand, we can begin the approval process with the consulate. Each country has specific requirements which can affect the timeline.
Delays can occur due to various reasons, including obtaining necessary authorizations, flight availability, inclement weather, transportation restrictions, and public holidays.
The required documents for funeral repatriation often include:
- Death certificates
- Passport
- Permit for disposition
- Embalming affidavit (if applicable)
- Non-contagious disease certificate (if required by the destination country)
Embalming is often necessary for international repatriation. There are certain cases where embalming regulations can be exempt due to religious beliefs.
If the deceased had pre-existing medical conditions or infectious diseases like COVID-19, additional precautions and documentation may be necessary for repatriation. Compliance with health and safety protocols is essential to protect those involved in the repatriation process.
In some cases, repatriation without a casket (using a sealed transport container such as a zinc-lined shipping box) may be permitted for certain countries. However, in most countries that do require a casket, a hermetically sealed metal casket with an air tray is recommended.
We have access to live milestone updates through our innovative logistical software. We also offer live tracking for a small fee.
Most airports do accept repatriated remains but not all do. Countries that have smaller, local airports do not accept any type of cargo at all. We will advise as to which airports are an option and we will make sure that the decedent gets as close as possible to their destination. Please note, some countries are very limited due to embargoes so there may only be 1 airline and 1 airport in that country.
In some cases, yes, however, it depends on the country’s regulations. If a family has this request, we will confirm with the airline if the decedent can be consigned to a family member and advise.
For most international flights, there is usually some type of connection, but not always. We will work with you to find the best route available.
We have several agents throughout the United States and worldwide. With our experience and connections, we can facilitate transportation for an additional fee. If your funeral home is in the tri-state area, you have the option to drive the decedent to one of our convenient NYC locations and we will transfer them to the airport.
Yes, repatriation can often be arranged for non-citizens. The process may involve coordination between relevant authorities in both the home country and the country of the deceased’s origin.
Cost is a variable expense depending on several factors including the destination and weight of the decedent. The type of casket selected can also be an added expense depending on how elaborate and decorative the casket is. We will work with you to keep costs down and facilitate an easy process.
Once we have a flight estimation, we will issue an airway bill including all the services you selected. The final bill is considered a cash advance for your funeral establishment and must be settled the day before the flight departs. Any overpayment for airfare will be refunded to the funeral home or family. Similarly, any underpayment for airfare will be invoiced. Payment can be paid via credit card, debit card, bank transfer, or check.
I was most pleased with the service - in responsiveness and value. Your representative assigned to my case - Dana - worked diligently on my behalf. I would recommend your services to any other funeral home in need of international transport. In the past, I have used another company - in New Jersey- and found you to be much more responsive and easier to work with. Thank you.
